I am designing a machine to ease in my production. My company is dealing with abrasives conversion.
I am wondering if I could use a cutting die to cut and punch out abrasives cloth.
Will be handling grit #40 onwards to various grits.
I need to know the cycle life of a cutting die cutting on abrasives cloth.

Using a punch and die sounds hopeless to me. I've heard that waterjet can cut cloth though, maybe they've got some tricks to keep the cloth relatively dry.

Sorry to bring back a old thread, but just wondering if anyone knows of any materials for stamping abrasives cloth?
Currently I am using hardended mild steel, but it never last me more than 10k cycles and the stamp dies are very costly.
Anyone knows of any tough material for abrasive cloth?

You don't say anything about the shapes, dimensions, or tolerances.

Have you tried steel rule dies? They are quite inexpensive. (Some might say cheap.)
