    Fixed Gantry

    HI..

I have yet to start building my CNC Table, before I start I was wondering if there is any benfit in a fixed granite?

I thinking of set it half way down the moving table.

You can build a more massive gantry, without having to worry about the extra power or stronger linear bearings to move it. Also, you should be able to get away with a smaller shaft to move the table.
The drawbacks are that the router will only have around half the cutting length for a given footprint, but the bearing shafts will need to be double the length of the table.
(Note: The opinions expressed in this post are my own and are not necessarily those of CNCzone and its management)
