    Steper and driver choice

    Hi All
I have almost competed the frame, gantry and linear bearings of a 1.5m x 1.5m woodwork router, and need to acquire stepper motors and drivers system. The gantry wieghs about 79 kg, and lead screws are 16mm dia with 4mm pitch. I am in the UK and need to find a cheap solution. What spec will I need for motors, or what speed will the tool have to move.

These are on ebay....The holding torque is 14kg.cm. They are 3 amp, 2.55 volts with 1.8 degree stepping angle. The dimensions are 78mm x 56 mm x 56 mm. Hope this helps.

No other info available yet, will they do?

Any help would be really appreciated
    TIA
    Aaron

    Aaron,
Those motors are rather small (NEMA 23's most likely) for trying to move that heavy a gantry. You might get away with it doing a high gearing (belting) ratio but it'll take lots of steps to move very far and your speed will suffer greatly. Look for some much larger motors.

While the following is in inch units, the technicals on driving lead screws and transfer of mechanical power via a stepper might be usefull reading for you: http://pminmo.com/PMinMOwiki/index.p...chanical_Power

The motors are too small, unless you are happy with a very slow speed.

Take a look at http://www.motioncontrolproducts.co.uk/ for motors and drives. I use there MSD*** drivers and find they have been very reliable and fairly priced.

I bought these some time ago and @79KG your gantry seems "large" enough to need some grunt! 12nm motors are awesome (imo) I have no reservations with these drivers/motors I just turn it on and away it goes... ebay MCP Not sure I need all that grunt on all axes though...But it can't hurt lol
