Corian Color Lithophane Lamp!
Try saying that fast 5 times!
I made the entire lamp out of 1/4 inch Corian and cut the Litho with a 45 degree V-bit. In PhotoVCarve I set it up as a 0.03 ball nose bit with max depth at 0.15" and line spacing at 16%. I set Z-zero at -0.05, with the max depth at 0.15" I got more of a 3D effect than I would have at 0.1". I used a 23watt fluorescent light bulb and an outdoor light fixture.

That's pretty neat. What adhesive/glue are you using on the Corian?

A six minute epoxy. After a little research I discovered that Corian glue is simply a color matched epoxy glue.

Another idea, that I think would look good with that carving, would be to use LED lights & make the box very thin, then it could be put on a picture frame stand.

Kinda like this here (only light from behind, like you did).

I used HP color transparency film.
1st I converted the full color image into a CMYK image and then deleted the "K" channel which is the black or shades of gray that the lithophane already represents.
Then glue the transparency to the back of the lithophane being sure to line it up just right. I used 3M's 77 spray adhesive.
I then gave it a light coat of mat white lacquer paint over the transparency so that the color "magically" disappears when the light is turned off...:rainfro:

Just joined the site, awesome information on here. I was just curious how do you convert the photo to the CMYK? Is it done in photoshop? or are there other programs available to do this?

I did it in Photoshop, though I am sure there are many other photo editing programs that would do it just fine. Including some shareware programs.
Is your machine homemade? Mine is.
Have you got your copy of PhotoVcarve yet? It is well worth the cost in my opinion!

Lithophanes ARE addictive, and habit forming!
I make a lot nightlight lithophanes myself.

I have a small desktop system on order but I am also building a larger one for myself but only in design stages. I saw a lithophane at school a few years ago and have wanted to make them ever since. Im starting a small business making them this summer.
Im curious about the V-bits you use? from black and decker right? do you know where i can buy them? or others as I have a feeling the ballnose bits will become expensive very quickly.

Vermont American also makes a double 1/4 V-bit 45/60 degree #22109.
Any V-bit will work fine. After you get the software I would be happy help you with the software settings.

OK, I have a trial version of Photoshop 7 on my machine.
How the heck do you convert an image to CYMK and remove K?

Then, in the layer thing in the bottom right, click on the channel tab, then you can right click on the one you want to delete.

I don't see CMYK under Image/Mode.
All I see is Bitmap, Grayscale, Indexed Color and RGB color.

What is the image? Try converting it to RGB then try again and see if CMYK appears as an option.
