My Phase converter has a high pitched squeak and draws about 5 amps at no load.
This is a phase perfect 20HP
Manufacturer says this is normal
Anyone have experience with this?

I have two 20hp and a 10 hp phase perfect. They do make a humming noise. I think they draw a little power at no load. Never had a lick of trouble with them though.
Mine whines when it's cold, like below 45*F, I remember that from years ago, we now heat the shop 24/7 as it's a full time job to where we were "moonlighting" previously. A little humming or light wining is normal. Excessive??? Is it in a heated shop?
It's like a high pitched chirp, which is pretty annoying if nothing else is on but with all other shop noise it's not very noticible.
I'm thinking about building a vented box around it or putting it outside
I saw one guys shop and his converter was in the attic, so to say, couldn't hear anything. Mine is in the bottom casting of an engine lathe, where you open the door for access to the lathe motor, works for me.
Are you guys talking about a Rotary Phase Converter or a Digital Phase Perfect?
talking about a digital, solid state, the noise comes from the high freqency switching supply
Ahh...that's what I thought but then someone said they had theirs in a cabinet under the lathe....
I'm easily confused. I'm old...
