    Memory size

Hello all. Lots of great info on the site, but I haven’t been able to find anything regarding my current challenge.

We recently acquired a 1996 Okuma VR40-II with and OSP700M control. We are very happy with the machine, but keep running up against the 32k memory limitations.
We would like to increase the memory size.

-I’ve talked to the local Okuma rep and they told me the only option is to add DNC at a cost of ~$6500 and three to six months.

-There are two hard drives - MD1 (32k) and MD0 (256k). It has a floppy drive and will let me transfer a program file directly in MD1, but not MD0. The local rep says MD0 is for operating programs only, but there are a couple of part programs in there from before we owned the machine. When I try to transfer I get an error message “5000 MS-DOS error 7”.

That turned out kind of long-winded, but any ideas on three questions below, or anything I may have overlooked?

    1. Any ideas on how to transfer from floppy to MD0?
    2. Options for increasing the hard drive size?
    3. Options for adding drip feed DNC other than OEM.

    Thanks,

    Jim

We've made a little progress on this. Someone on another board taught us how to pull schedule files from MD0, so that opened up ~125k. I'm still looking for options to increase the hard drive memory or add the ability to drip-feed.
