    Question Help with MicroMill

    Hi -

I have similar Micro Mill shown here:
    http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=47158

I need to replace the arbor and chuck. Is this the correct one I need for replacement? Or better question - Can someone post couple links to what I need to get for replacement?

    Thanks

I gather that you want to replace your 3/8" chuck with a 1/2 inch? There's a reason why you are confused. The Micro mill is only rated for 3/8" drills, so LMS does not list the 1/2" chuck for it. You can USE it though. (I've got a 5/8" chuck from Discount Machine {ebay} on one of mine. You have to specify MT2:

Just be aware of the limitations.

The Micro mill uses a draw bar. That chuck/arbor won't work because the short arbor is made for a lathe, not a draw bar. This is the arbor you currently have in your mill:

You would need to get this arbor:

    33Jt 2MT arbor:

    and one of THESE chucks:

    Standard 1/2" chuck.

You are not done yet though. The Micro mill draw bar is metric. THESE arbors use 3/8-16 American thread. Your current drawbar will not fit the new arbor. You can either get THIS drawbar:

or just go to LOWES/HOME DEPOT and get a 3/8-16 bolt of the same length.

    Thanks -

Just worried that will order wrong item.

How does the chuck come off the arbor? The mill I have is same as the one at Harbor freight but did not order it from there. And it came pre-assembled. If I can same the chuck and just order the arbor and screw?

    Thanks again -

The arbor is a press on fit to the chuck. There's a wedge type removal tool for this that comes with drill presses. Failing that, you COULD gently tap it out with a mallet while the drawbar is tight. Be ready to catch it though.

That Arbor will only fit a jt3 chuck, so unless you've got something else jt3 to put on it, you might as well leave it on the chuck.

The chuck in your first link was out of stock and don't want to wait so ordered the profesional chuck in your second link.

Ordered the arbor, pro-chuck & screw you showed in your links. Hopefully have it all before next weekend.

    Thanks

It shipped today. Can't wait for it to arrive. Here is a pic of my mill and a pic of what I have been playing with in VCarvePro. Want to make some tags for at work. Been playing with different fonts and cutters and previewing what they might look like when cut out.

    THANKS!@
