Make a rotary table into a 4 jaw chuck

I saw that most people do this

Would it be possible to drill and tap a hole in the t-slot of a rotary table and insert the jaws for the chuck?
Im running out of room and adding another 4 inches in height to add a chuck or vise seems to much.

I've seen those little Vices that are just a fancy clamp system that might work bolted to the T slot with minimal height!

(I think from memory JFettig made one from plans he found on the web)

You could look into in taking that rotary table right off [whats turning] and mount your 4 Jaw chuck directly, might have to get a slightly larger one to have the same O.D.

I took a used Westcott 4-jaw, and made a steel plate so it would bolt easily to my rotary table (7" Yuasa). The plate had opposing extruded centers that fit snugly into the rotary table and the chuck (no brainer centering), the holes were counterbored 3/16 socket head cap screws so it was easy to bolt on to the T-slots on the table as well. Then the chuck bolted right on.

Adapter plates are expensive, it was a worthwile project. It has been very handy to use both in horizontal and vertical positions.

    Thanks,
