fanuc oi help - dnc ?

We just put in a new cnc machining center with a fanuc oi control.
We have hooked it up to a PC and use fanuc dnc to upload and
download progams to the control via rs232. This program is a very
basic xmit/recieve. Fanuc is new to me since our last 5 machines
have been cinci's. We used a program called dcdnc with cinci controls
that allows the user to search the pc for files, upload and download
right at the control. With the fanuc dnc, we need to run back and forth
between the pc and control. Is this control capable of terminal emulation
and is there a program that can search and xfer files right at the control ?

    Thanks

    Jim

Your 0i may have the Embedded Ethernet option. AFAIK, that's the only way to "fetch" programs from the control.

In lieu of that, you could get something like Predator DNC which uses a "Remote Request" command (short program stored in the 0i memory) which you punch out to have Predator search for and send a program from the server... you only need to edit the program name each time.

Predator Desktop allows you to set up a Schedule (at the PC) of programs, then when you need the next program, you just do a request from the CNC, and it sends the next one in the queue.

    Thanks for the reply

The ethernet option was outrageous -- 4K
I did find a program called easydnc. It is easier to use, however
I still need to press more buttons than I did with the cinci's

I did find a program called easydnc. It is easier to use,
Fanucs just don't have any client/server capability built in so can't search a remote disk/server for files.

You mentioned easyDnc - There is a version of easyDnc which has a remote request capability which will save you running back to the PC each time you want a file.

If your current software is "PC-DNC", then you can remote request files from a Fanuc through a serial link. I know because I wrote PC-DNC, PC-DNC Editor, and PC-DNC Plus. It can accept a remote request, and it can either download or drip-feed the control.
