Angry need to find a replacement stepper motor urgently

Today whilst V carving a photo to a max depth of 1 mm in pine on my shg - 609 my z axis stepper motor snapped its drive shaft at the lower bearing ( see attached photos) i need a new one asap and would like to know if anyone knows where in Brisbane i can go to get a new one and an approx price.
all the info on the motor are as follows

    57hs2a76-404
    www.apexmotor.com
    NO.20071031

considering i have only used this machine 5 times it has got me a bit peeved.

any help would be much appreciated

    thanks

    Is this machine from sh-cnc?

Hi rocabig , I read a post where you were looking for sys-e. Is this the machine that you bought through him?

If so, and the machine came from sh-cnc - why don`t you contact sh-cnc and find out if they can help you?

Ocean controls may be able to suggest one of these as an alternative if you can find the exact specs from the apex site.

    Hi roacbig

I can't help you with the motor but I would change the coupling as it broke because
of bad alignment the couping could not flex to take up the misalignment It can still be a solid design but with slots in & around it so it can flex or it will break again unless you can align it perfect.

I would agree that changing the coupling to flexible type would be advisable, solid coupling is probably the reason for the break.
If you get the bellows type, I would suggest the stainless version over the aluminum type, which are really only suited for encoder loads.

    Hello

You might want to try lowcostcncretrofit.com, he might be able to help and is in QLD. Also try www.automationdirect.com.au.

    G'day

I looked around alot in Australia through standard suppliers and were very expensive. I got the ones for my mill at www.cncfusion.com for there X3 mill, they were the best price I could get. They are zero backlash type and only made for ally. Depending on the size of stepper, equals type of coupling torque rating, they have to match. Love-joy type work well and are cheap, but have backlash.

believe it or not jaycar have cheap 1/4" flex couplings - I'm using them on a small lathe and they're OK-ish as far as backlash is concerned. They're not steel though so wouldn't stand up to huge loads like lovejoys. Might get your machine up and running while you look for better ones. Since the z-axis has the weight of the spindle on it shouldn't backlash be minimised since there's always some force on the coupling?

As for Sys-e - I see he's stopped listing on trademe (a NZ auction site).

    Flexiable couplings

    Hello Richard

Minature Bearings Australia - who are in Qld, have the flexiable couplings you need,
    http://www.minibearings.com.au/cgi-b...al&Step=3=post

They aren't particularly cheap but using this style of coupler is cheaper than replacing the motor, at a pinch you could try oxyacletene ( sp? ) hose until you get a better coupler, I have seen it used on a homebuilt cnc router and it works fine, you may need to slow your cutting speed down, or not. Still a better option than a rigid coupler.

    Hope this helps.

have got a temporary replacement stepper till sh-cnc send out the new one covered under warranty

went out yesterday to jaycar and got the spider coupler, had to machine out one end so it will fit the ball screw shaft but seems to work OK very minimal backlash

    thanks again
