    Question Engine Lathe

I have a large 1950 Monarch Engine Lathe 15" chuck, 60" turning length that needs some care. I have a quote for the rebuild at about $25K. Should I rebuild or buy new ? If new, which brand would be close in quality and rigidity ?

    Hi Rob
I ran one of these in the mid 50's and they were the cream of the crop at that time.
I would not rebuild one of them for the following reason's.

No gears for Metric, I dont know what it weighs but they are really heavy, It takes a ton of motor to run the darn thing. Tool holders are very large and may not even be available.
One of these sold in Denver at a auction about 6 years ago for $1700.00 with a bunch of extras.

    Good luck.
    Bud

What brand would you suggest for a new engine lathe that might run as well ?
