    Another 8020 build

Good morning all. I'm preparing to build a CNC based on klick0's design (see below). The table will be 58" X 36". I'm hoping you all will chime in with your thoughts on my choices for electronics and linear guides. Do you see any potential problems? I'm new to this and while I've been reading non stop for days there is so much information to absorb that my head is starting to spin.

I have most of the 8020 ordered and should have it by the end of the week.

I'm waiting on a quote from Drylin on the "W" series rails and bearings, the dual rail "W" series are 3" wide and should fit the 3030 extrusions nicely. http://www.igus.com/show_dw.asp

I have also considered HiWins glides.

The electronics will consist of the Keling 4030 3 axis package. Includes 425 oz steppers and 40V/3.0A Bipolar Driver with heat sink drivers. I think I may need to go with two drives for the X axis, 58" in length.

I'm planning to use Acme 1/2-10 5 start lead screws.

    So what say you?

I'm interested in how it all comes out. I've been thinking about a router build myself.

    Good luck on the build,

I can certainly understand why you would want to borrow klick0's design. He has one handsome machine. I used Hiwins and like them just fine. Why do you need two drivers on the X?

It really is a good looking machine. I wonder how he's making out with it, he hasn't been here in guite some time.

I was thinking gantry weight may be a problem but I've recalculated and will just go with one.

The next question is, would 1/2" plate be thick enough for both the Y axis carriage and the router mounting plates?

    Talking Progress being made (Pics)

I used a couple of computers that we were taking out of service at work, gutted one of them for the control box. I will still be adding a relay to start the router from Mach 3, limit switches and some E-Stop switches. The control box and PC will be inside the cabinet they are sitting on with the shops sound system. I built that cabinet just for this purpose. And the machine of course will be on top.

I also completed the router (PC 690) mount today but didn't get a pic yet.

Your thoughts and suggestions are welcomed.
