I recently upgraded to a 10x22 lathe and looking to take my old Taig lathe and use it as a high speed spindle attachment for my CNC Mill. I have some small, 100w motors that will run at 2500 rpm and can make a pulley to get upwards of 10k rpm. I have the collet adapter for my Taig so will use that to hold the tool bits. This will only be for doing engraving and running 1/8" bits, or smaller, in aluminium or wood/plastic. No steel or larger bits so a 100w motor should be fine.
I just need someone who is in the know to confirm that the Taig will not suffer with this kind of rpm. I've had my lathe for a number of years so have long since lost documentation.
Thanks,
Ron
