Hurco VM2- Floppy and USB not working? BIOS setup? need help

    Hi
    :drowning: etc.
I am working with a used one year old VM-2.
When I got it, the floppy drive worked but the USB did not.
I tryed changing the BIOS and now nether are accessable. If I enable the USB in the BIOS, plugging the jump drive in or out stops the machine.

Is there a jump drive size limit on the USB drive?

    :drowning: etc.

    Any suggestions.

What software did the machine come with? Ultimax or Winmax? If it's Ultimax, that system is DOS based and the USB does not work. Hurco installed USB's on the old Ultimax machines with the anticipation of Winmax. Or the anticipation of you paying for the winmax upgrade.

    That explains a lot.

Thanks for the help. It explains a lot.

The machine was built in March of 2007. It has UltriMax. And, now I know it is DOS based. I just can not get why they are shipping DOS based software in new machines. The dealers alway demo WinMax but do not tell you the difference. In the demo, they show concurrency ( view of part being cut while programming in another window) well that is not going to happen in DOS.

I was told that the factory was having trouble getting hard disks that would work with UltriMax. Yes, new hard drives have too much capacity for DOS.

It is also interesting that the BIOS supports USB but the program does not.

Another DOS feature is the limit on file names of 8.3 characters.

Well, I gave up on the USB port. I can not figure out what I did to the Floppy drive.

So, tomorrow I will connect a serial port so that I can download a file to the machine and hopefully make something.

    Thanks for your help.

I have to say that I am disapointed.

Getting hard disks to work in Ultimax is not a problem. The CPU is a current unit that can run Windows so has USB capability. Ultimax has been able to run concurrent programming since it's first outing as Ultimax 1 in 1984. You must have bought it right about the changeover from Ultimax to Winmax.
