    Harrison Lathes M300

    Hi, are these good machines?
I have a chance to pick one up in nice shape. It is a 13x40. What should be a fair offer? It has no add ons.

Harrison lathes are O.K., buyer beware on used machines there's normally a reason they're getting rid of it. It all depends on what you're looking to do with it.

The fellow buys and sells. He has 4 of them and they came from a school. They look really good. Hardly any paint wear. I plan to check them out. He advised he has 2 gap beds and a solid bed. Which is better?

A gap bed lathe will allow you to turn larger diameter work close to the chuck by removing the "gap". I have not noticed a difference between the machines. I have never had the need to remove the gap on any of the turning that I have done. It could be nice to have depending on what you do. You can almost never have too many options, or a machine too big.
