Can I remove this from my mill head?

I know this is used for the quill extension indicator, but is it supporting anything else? Or can I just remove it? I never use it (as the quill is CNC'ed on my mill), and it gets in the way of clamps etc regularly.

    Thanks,
    -Neil.

This looks the same as on my HF Mill/drill and I removed it and replaced it with a linkage for a cheapie DRO. So, I guess, it really doesn't need to be there! :devious:
