Hi,

I am looking at modifying the Solsylva design belt driven router table to run a pen plotter / knife attachment for cutting 2 - 3 ply chipboard. The application of this machine would be for architectural models. My former school had a Zund 1200 in the shop (Swiss machine, see www.zund.com ) which we mainly used for terrain models (cutting successive layers of cardboard along contour lines).
I'd like to know if the belt driven Solsylva design would be able to put sufficient power behind a knife. Does anyone know what size motors would be adequate for this application ? Is there a significant trade off between pushing around a heavy router vs. dragging a light knife through material ?

Thanks for your insights
