    advice on longer wires

I need to rewire my machine .Initially I was considering a mobile workstation but realized all I needed in the proximity or the work was the monitor and a mouse.

So I am going to make an enclosure for the computer and hobby box of tricks . this unit will go under the machine ,out of the way .the machine is roughly 4'by8'. This will involve one wire run in the region of 16'.

The original Hobby kit wires are not nearly long enough. So I am asking those of you that are electrical savvy what kind of gauge should the wires be, what is this type of wireing called and who is a good supplier any help appreciated regards mike hide

    Hello Mike

I used cable real similar to this http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/1YPT6

I got mine at a local electronc supply ( ask for antenna rotor cable )

My x axis motor control cable is at least 16ft maybe 18 I was a bit concerned it might be to long, but so far no problems.

    Good luck Kent

I got mine at Fry's and the price was great. Just make sure you get the shielded cable and ground the shield to the common wire.

I believe it is preferred, Mine is not shielded.
I have not had any issues yet.
I could not find shielded, they were out and I was in a hurry J
