Hello out there again,
As my lathe is down for some time I would like to change the leaky hydraulic seals in the turret.The red oil is leaking down into the expensive rustlick soluble oil and making a mess.
Just changed the seals on the drawtube cylinder and had it rechromed because of corrosion damage.
Has anyone ever attempted to do this on there own?
Can mear humans do this or shall I call the repair guy again?!
Mine is a colchester tornado storm a50 2001 model.
My spindle drive and power pack are off at fanuc for expensive repairs at this time.
Any help would be greatly appreiceated .

I have a storm 80 1998 model I took my turret apart after my coollant hose came off and I connected to the turret breather hose by mistake filled the entire turret with coolant.My turret is servo driven , very simple, when you get in it you will understand how it works. The worse part was lifting it out of the machine.

What made your spindle drive fail ?
Was there any warning before it failed?
Im afraid to ask how much to get it fixed?
the reason i ask my spindle does not come to a stop as fast as it did a few years ago. And it slowes down alot when cutting when i first got it the rpms would stay steady when cutting.

Nice to hear from a colchester guy!
My turret is also servo driven from what it souds like when it turns,but the lock mechanisme
I assume is what is leaking.
Too busy to take it all apart until next week.I sure hope it will be strait forward as you say maybe sleep beter tonight.
Fanuc called yesterday to let me know it was in and take 10 to 15 working days to get through there system.Other than shipping it should be about $550.00 for the drive and $450.00 for the power pack depending on which one is dammaged.
A minimum of $250.00 just for testing each one.
As for what caused it,I suspect a power surge and my usual bad luck in general.........
Your spindle stops with electricity going into or out of the blue things in the drive circuit board,maybe they are tired a little.
Your spindle slowing when you take cuts is odd because the rpm should remain constant or the surface speed should be constant.
Maybe give fanuc service tech guy a call.
