    bar feeding

    Hi all

I have SV150 hardinge lathe. I want to bar feed hex bar using bar puller through the spindle. But I cannot stop the spindle at same position all the time for par puller to pull. I dont have the C axis capability. Is there any G code with which we can orient the spindle every time?

On my Hardinge II+ its an M19 for spindle orient. Good luck ( a call to Hardinge might help, no charge...)

As Beege said, M19 orientates the spindle per a value in a parameter. See if you can add an S-code to it. Use in the format M19S0300, M19S4511, etc. If his works, then you will be able to rotate the barstock to the exact desired position.

If the S-code doesn't work, either call Hardinge (easiest), or post back and I will see if I can locate the parameter, tho I bet I can't beat Beege in locating it.

    Da man

You can use G32 with a feedrate and a slow spindle speed of like 30-50 RPM to get the hex flats at 12:00 and 6:00.

    S50M03
    G4U1.0
    G32W-.100F.032
    M05
    M1
    (call puller)
    etc.

Or, In my opinion, The best way. After cutting off, use the cut off tool to turn the flats off to the root of the hex about .093-.125 wide. Wallah, no more hex to grab, just a qualified diameter. And on a good day, the round you turned will be wiped out by the rough turning tool when you rough out the diameter.

Betcha wondering "why didn't I think of that?"
