    How to calculate this?

    Hi friends
    I want to press a square sheet (110cm x 110cm and thickness 2mm)
    of aluminum to make bathtub with depth 10cm .
    But i d'not know the capacity of hydraulic press that enough to
    do this.
    Is 50 ton enough?
    I need help to determine the capacity of hydraulic press to
    accomplish this mission.

    Shakosh,

    there are a lot of unknown variables in what you are asking:

    What is the exact type of Aluminum?

    What is elastic resistance of the raw material?

    Total length of perimeter?

    Any cutting ? perimeter of cutting

    overall finished thickness? material will stretch, so thickness will vary!

    Can the shape be made in a single die or are multiple dies necessary???

    Type of finish is also a variable!

    I doubt that anyone can answer you without knowing any of the above and without seeing any drawing of some sort.

    Just to give you an idea: shearing a perimeter of 110cm square X 2mm thickness in aluminum would require between 70 and 210 tons depending on the alloy.

    No wonder you have not received any replies!!

    Hi everybody !

    If you heat your aluminium sheet with a simple propane or butane torch, you should need way less pressure to form it, if you aluminium fuses say at 600°c, then if you heat it at 300°c it will loose the half of its strength and would need the half of the pressure needed to form it when it's cold.

    So form it when it's hot, like those guys that were hand making (forging) horse shoes, with no 50 ton hydraulic press...

    So for me 50 ton should be enough, as long as the sheet remains hot trough the whole process
