    Speed up that probe!

    says the boss

we're using the renishaw to relocate the center on the frames we're drilling
right now I'm using the web measure cycle to do it, but the frames are 15" wide by 30" long and the probe feeds slow from the center out then touches, and rapids back to center, 4 times per frame
there's no reason why it shouldn't rapid out from center, feed down, touch, then rapid up, and back to center
anybody know how to do this?
at this point the macros are too confusing for me, and I thought maybe someone could point me in the right direction

I also thought about rapiding around and using single surface to touch the four sides, then use variable math to calculate the center, but this would cause me a bunch of re-writes elsewhere in my program

    whats a guy to do!?

you can speed up the speed of pre-location , you need to find a program O98xx named settings , and there is a speed you need, for the metrics unit I have 2 speed 2500 and 5000 mm/min called feed for fast and slow machines.

    yeah but, Im scared

during the X web cycle I see macro 9721 (X DIAM) is active and the line that pushes the probe out from center looks like:

    G31 X[#1-#32] F#169

now I find this line in the settings macro 9724:

    #169= 200 (FAST FEED INCH)

so if I change that to...

    #169= 1500 (FASTER FEED INCH)

    what risks am I runnning?

I see that #169 is also used to push the probe down in Z after its moved out from center, but I don't want it to move down in Z at 1500 ipm!

    maybe I should just change
    G31 X[#1-#32] F#169
    to
    G31 X[#1-#32] F1500.

    any foreseeable problems there?

you can run a tuning macro , and your machine will self check with speed is the fastest.
