    Milltronics Centurion 4 amp capacitor

    Hello,

    I am in the process of finishing my conversion from the centurion 4 over to EMC and have one question. I ripped out all of the wiring and now I can't figure out what power goes into the large capacitor for the driver boards. I did find that it needs more than 30 volts for the drivers to power on but not any exact figure. Can some one check theirs and see if it is 120 or 72. Thanks

    Contacted Servo Dynamics and the capacitor receives 100vdc but I still cant source where it was getting its power

    As a general rule, those drives have a 120/240 or 240/480 to ~70vac transformer followed by bridge and capacitor.
    The transformer is high VA, so it is not small, by any means.

    I do have the 70vac transformer connected, but the power from the capacitor came from a separate source. The driver panel I left completely intact, SD gave me 100 VDC for the power source but I dont have anything above 24vdc that came from the original control. At least as far as I can tell.

    Also, I didn't mention the drives do power on and the Voltages LED lights. Bu I check voltage going to the individual controllers and it is 72v so it is well within the drives range before error.

    I'm not getting power to the motors.

    If you have the correct power to the drives, then are they enabled?
    If so do you have a command voltage?
    If these are ±10vdc command drives, what are you using from the EMC system for command?

    I am using a board from mesa electronics for the analog signals. I am not enabling the boards at the moment, I was trying to get everything wired up first. I suppose I will hook up the enables and go from there. Thanks for your help.

    I usually use a ±9vdc battery box to check the drives before hooking up to the CNC control.

    I got another response from Servo Dynamics today that said the 100vdc must be supplied from a source that is isolated from ground and has to be clean.

    How would I go about isolating the power from ground?

    Just make sure either the 70v AC secondary of the Transformer, or the DC output of the bridge is not referenced to ground, i.e. that one AC terminal or DC minus terminal (common) is not connected to a ground screw or taken back to the common ground plate/terminals/bus.

    Ok, It appears that the system is already wired this way. I am now wondering if the 2 legs coming off the capacitor weren't providing power to something else.

    Possibly a dump resistor or other method.
