    Hurco BMC2416 tool change problem

I am having problem with a swing arm tool changer.

When the arm rotates 60 degrees the tool is released about 3 degrees to early. Is there a adjustment to delay the tool release. Mechanical or in the programming?

    Thanks
    Farrell

Possible Problem: It is common for the tension spring in the arm to break (claw), check it and replace it if necessary.

It could be a speed related issue. Check the oil in the toolchanger transmission housing is 32 or 37 grade. If the oil is too thick, it will slow the tool arm too much at the 0, 60 and 180 degree positions. If necessary, drain and change it.

The swing arm on the BMC2416 is held in place with a tapered lock bushing. It's possible for the arm to become misaligned on the shaft. First use the manual functions to move the arm to the tool change position. Where the arm is grabbing the two tools but they are still in the spindle and pocket. Ensure there is a tool in the spindle and one in the pocket. Use endmill holders with nothing in them if you like, lessens damage due to a thrown tool. Loosen the 4 cap screws at the bottom of the arm. You may need to hit the arm with a dead blow to break the fit on the tapered bushing. If it's simply misaligned, rotate the arm until it's snug against the two tools flanges. Tighten the 4 lock bolts and you are done.
If you just think it's releasing too early, and it's throwing tools on you, go through the manual functions and when you bring down the arm, you'll probably see a delay in the two pins near the central shaft springing up. They can get gunked up with old coolant and stuff. You might have to take the arm off to clean things out, I had to on the one at work. Cleaned and lubed the whole thing, and every week I make sure the pins are operating smoothly.
    Hope that helps you!
