Hello folks, first post here but I've done lots of reading. My new Grizzly 10x22 came in a few days ago and I spent the day getting it set up, cleaned and leveled the bed with a machinist level. I spent the rest of the day breaking it in, and adjusting the gibs.
My problem is, it is cutting about 0.002" taper per linear inch. This is using a 3 jaw chuck only, with a 1" OD Steel Rod. I made several cuts and it's 100% repeatable. I can rule out tail stock alignment at this point since I hadn't used it yet. The bed/ways are dead nuts and that took awhile. Pretty hard to do with only two bolts, and they are very touchy on the torque. There is no slop in the spindle, and I loosend the drive belt to make sure I wasn't too tight.
I'm pretty much thinking the head/spindle is not aligned with the bed. It looks to be adjustable but I'm not sure how and don't want to mess things up if there are items I hadn't thought of.
Grizzly said when it left the factory, it had these settings.
Spindle Nose Runout 0.01mm
Spindle Taper - Nose 0.011mm with 100mm test bar 0.02mm
Spindle to Bed - Horizontal 0.018mm @ 200mm
Vertical 0.040mm @ 200mm
So, if this is all correct it should had been fine when it got here. No crate damage when it arrived.
What do I do????
