0.6mm Brass / Copper on 0.4mm Steel Backing

    Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to post. I work for a small engraving company in South Africa and we are looking looking for a copper plate with a very thin steel backing. Simple enough except they can't be held by an adhesive. The copper or Brass portion of the plates will be chemically milled for use in the hot stamping of foil in a printing operation. The steel backing allows the mounting of the plates on magnetic printing cylinders and magnetic flat bases.

I've heard of chemically bonding copper on steel and "growing" copper on steel, but know nothing about the process. The problem with adhesives is the plates will be heated to 400 degrees F for a few hours, then cooled, and then reheated again for a few hours, then cooled, and so on.

If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Here are the specs: Copper plate approximately 0.6mm thick with a 0.4mm steel integrated backing.

I need(Costs, Minimum Order, etc.) on this product. A similar plate in Brass may also work.

    cheers

I think even if you can do it, it will not work well. The temperature changes will cause the thing to curl up like a potato chip.

I think you would have better results with a solid copper or brass piece and an alternative fixturing technique.
