Connecting two identical drivers to drive one stepper motor?

    Hi

Is it possible/advisable to connect two identical drivers to drive one stepper motor?

I am planning to drive a 3.0A unipolar motor with two 1.5A driver.

I dont know why you would want to do this when you can run your motor as bi-polar and only use 1/2 the amps and at a heck of a lot less money.

Not a good idea to double-up drives. The hotter a transistor gets, the more current it tries to carry. One drive gets hotter making the other drive a little cooler. The hotter drive starts carrying most of the current until it burns up. This is called 'current hogging'.

Doubled-up drives instantly destroy themselves if they are switching type drives (L297, Allegro, etc). The drives are not synchronized at their switching frequency so one drive will have a motor output switched to GND while the other drive has its output switched to +supply. The short circuit current flowing out of one drive into the other one will destroy both of them instantly.
