    Leveling a Lagun Vertical Mill

I've got a couple FTV-2S vertical mills that I need to level. I haven't done this in years but it seems to me we made a plate with a tapped hole and a lip (to keep it from rotating) to catch the edge of the machine. Then we used threaded rod as a jack screw to level them with a nut and washer on top to lock it in place. Does that sound right?

Any better suggestions, other than the $100.00 a set wedges?

    Thanks,
    Don

For a typical knee mill it is not that critical. With a gaged variety of 4x4inch square pieces of sheetmetal, shimming the corners does the job just fine. As long as it doesn't rock, true level shouldn't be a problem.

Sheet metal shims work great. I like a machine level it just takes one more variable out.

Sometimes I need to use a level for a quick setup. If the machine is not level the set up will take a little longer.
