I looked for a Siemens forum but I figured it was ok to post here...??

We are working with a customer that has 10 or more new machines with Siemens 840D controls. They only have Ethernet ports on them. IT Dept does not want them on the network, so we are looking for serial port option.

We purchased a USB to serial adapter and plugged in. Windows spots it with no issues. The Siemens operator panel has no buttons to access the serial port (RS232). Normally we done, Menu |Services | Interface | RS232 and we can transfer the files to any PC (like our other Siemens 840D controls).

We noticed there is a firmware different on the latest controls: V08.00.02.03
The older Siemens has RS232 built in and running older version.

Anyone know if the V08.00.02.03 can have access to RS232 ports? Or how to add since USB seemed to be spotted but Siemens interface does not.
(3) calls and 1 email to support guys at Siemens and no one has a clue.
