    Gremlins in the control

My 2007 shop sabre with servos has developed some behavior problems.

The machines problems started out with the z axis not stopping during setup and crashing into the spoil board. I thought this might be a one time thing or that maybe operator error was the culprit. Next problem the feed speed pays no attention to the programmed speeds (even when testing with old files that used to run fine), at 200% the listed speed is 600 or more always and somtimes the bottom speed is higher then the 200% speed. Next up and this is a doosey, the tool touch command has always ran at a default speed, now it runs at program speed which it thinks 600 ipm or higher is a good speed. The last time I used the tool touch the spindle took off like it was on fire and ran past the touch switch and maybe would still be going if I had'nt installed crash limit switches.

That last fiasco caused me to stop using the machine till it's fixed. I'm concerned for the machines and my health, if trys any more tricks who knows what might happen.

I ran a new version of AVG V.8 and there were only some cookies that were cleaned up, no serious problems were found.

I think the problem lies in the Wincnc software.

Anybody have any experience like this or know a possible fix?

I have contacted Ben at Shopsabre and expect his reply shortly, he has been
helpful but the problems seem to be moving around.

    Thanks, Joe

Maybe it got corrupted? Can you reinstall?

To eliminate some future possible problems, I'd recommend you set up your computer as a dedicated sole use machine. Nothing on there except what you need to run your router and not networked or online. Keep the nasties out.

The computer is dedicated for the Shopsabre controller only. I briefly hooked up to the internet with an air card to activate and run the anti virus sofrtware. The computer is stripped down to the essentials to run Wincnc.

open explorer, go to wincnc file and open, copy and paste a file called "wincnc config", it will look like a notepad with a gear on it, do not remove this file from wincnc it is what runs your machine. i will pm you my number if you have a problem

ini file to shop sabre w/gremlins

    Hello,

I finally have a chance to reply sorry about the delay. Here is the ini file.
Jim from Shop Sabre did some adjustments and it is for a 48x60 machine so it may not look exactly like you might expect.

    Thanks Again,
    Joe

Hello, I spent about an hour on the phone with Ben from Shopsabre recently and he got most of the problems fixed up plus a few convenient adjusments. I still have a fear of the z axis moving after the key page down or interface button is released. I am very cautious and slow when setting z0. This problem is intermittent and seems to have no pattern so it is very hard to work on.

I have a new controller project. I just bought a used Multicam with an older controller everything is clean and in good condition, however the command console is not working. If I can find a working one or fix this one fine if not I would like to switch to a Wincnc controller if any of you have experience at this type of project please let me know if this is a good idea and what.

    Thanks Again,

    Joe

Hello, I bought a convertor that converts 230v ac to 5v dc to replace the broken one in the multicam. This I hope will fix the console pendant. Next step is the DNC software. If all goes well I will have to convert from 460v three phase to 240v single phase. It appears that the three phase only runs the invertor and that as well as the spindle are adjustable to single phase 240. All other functions that use dc will have their convertors changed as well.

As far as the Wincnc conversion goes well maybe if the other controller project fails.

If anyone wants to throw their two cents in I'm not a greedy beggar.

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Hello,

The gremlins are in full control of my z axis, after tuning up the machine with Shop Sabre tech things were good for a short time...now they're back the gremlins that is.

The z soft limit keeps turning the machine off at between 5" and 7" above the spoilboard. I have re-set the g37 several times and things are fine briefly but the problem soon returns. I use the instruction sheet that came with the tool touch switch for setting the g37 and I also use a slightly different method that Ben showed me, neither seems to work.

I would'nt mind just running without the soft limits but the z axis is also unpredictable. Somtimes it dives past the program cutting point and buries itself in the wood. I am never far away from the abort button.

I would like to know is this a common problem, (the unpredictable behavior) with Wincnc controllers or is this somthing that is unusual, and should I expect to find a fix or is this just something Wincnc users live with.

    Thanks,

    Joe

I've never had such behavior either. Have you changed any macros lately? Something that might be changing the mode your in or offsets somehow?

daisy, can you post your ini file and the gcode that went eratic, i havew never had a machine go eratic unless i told it to and did not know what i wa doing, recntly i was dumb enough to try to move the dust foot thinking my hand would out run the zdrop dumb me!!

it will not take much to chase out a limit switch problem, wincnc is an amazing program but nothings perfect, i have had great response from the fellows at win cnc.

    Hello,

First I would like to say that the support from Shopsabre has been prompt, polite and professional. Second I have no complaints with the controller as far as overall performance and ease of use go.

The problems I have had except z were all fixed with a couple of sessions with Shopsabre. The recuring problem with z is some strange monster that has been fixed then comes back. I do not mess with the ini files unless a tech is advising me. I would suspect that I had made some mistake key strokes but after several fixes the problem is still there. So either a problem has developed that has'nt been discovered yet or there is some kind of a harware problem causing the erratic z behavior.

Ro7all what did you do to remedy your z problem or are you just living on the edge, or did you change controllers?

    Thanks,

    Ddog
