    ultrasonic knife design

    Hello to all!

I am trying to build an ultrasonic knife at 20khz, for an application application i would prefer not to discuss at this time but I can say it is like cutting cooked hamburger meat. I already have a transducer and the electronics ready and working at 70 watts. The knife shall be around 70mm long and 15mm wide. I was thinking of making the knife rounded to keep it from bending. I need help in designing the horn and knife, any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Joseph,
I know very little about ultrasonic cutting except for the following:
The horn must be made to the same length as the wave length (or is it half) to close tolerances to be able to efficiently "transmit" the vibration to the knife. Ibelieve the horns used to made out of titanium. also total cutting length and depth are also limited. Their website is www.bransonultrasonics.com

Maybe you could get more information from Branson they manufacture ultrasonic machines they may help you out

    Best regards

    Bruno
