We recently purchased an abused '91 LB15 w/OSP5020L control. After the initial power up, we discovered the bearings in the spindle motor were bad. We sent the motor to be rebuilt. Yesterday while I was trying to get RS232 communications working, I noticed the cooling fan on the motor slowing down and eventually stopping. So I guess $650 doesn't cover bearings in the cooling fan. This morning it didn't even start and I could smell hot electric. I don't have any schematics for this machine, but I would figure there is a breaker or fuse for the cooling fan somewhere. Any ideas where specifically I should look? I know it should be in the back someplace.

If it is that abused,
you should check all fans and filters on the machine,
even the ones to the electricals.

As a precaution, take a copy of your machine parameters now, as a backup

Be careful here. If you run this machine with no spindle motor fan you will KILL your VAC spindle drive unit. If it is a TYPE A unit and you kill it. It is NO LONGER EXCHANGABLE! Thus you just cost your company 10K to replace it with a TYPE B unit.

Don't worry, was not running the spindle, just trying to get the RS232 working. The bearings have since been replaced in the fan and it's working fine.
