RACK AND PINION WITH SCREW DRIVE

i'm building a 4x4 router. i purchased 2 acme 48" screws/nuts, but now i like the look of rack and pinion on the y axis. would it work to have the screws on the x axis, rack and pinion on the Y axis, and a screw on the z axis? will they all calibrate themselves in the software? (mach 3, and vcarve pro)

Yes Mach3 will let you run different pulses per inch, but it won't calibrate it's self. You need to enter the pulses per inch in Mach3.

The software doesn't normally care what method of gearing you are using.
Rack and pinion often requires gearing due to the larger distance per rev when used without reduction.
