    help setting up limits

I'm trying to set up my machine limits, and i'm having difficulty getting the behavior i want. FYI - I only have a physical switch on one end of each axis (wired separately)

I'm trying to get limits on both ends of the travel.

I can get the soft limits working properly, but it's way too easy to turn them off.

What i really want, is sort-of a software-controlled, hard-limit. It just seems way too easy to bypass the soft limits. I want to set limits that people can't bypass unless they really, really want to. on dedicated machine controllers (fanuc, etc...), most of the time the limit override button is well protected against inadvertent use. Either locked inside the machine control cabinet, or it's a key-switch, etc.... you can't override it unintentionally. In mach, it just seems way too easy to over-ride the limits, and crash the machine into the end of travel.

Am i doing this completely wrong? Is soft limits the wrong place for this? should i check off "emulate" on the limit switches on the input screen? how do i set the travel limits?

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Mike,

The attached macro will automatically lock the soft limits to the on position when Mach3 starts.

Unzip and copy the macro into this directory C:\Mach3\macros\Mach3Mill

"Run Macro Pump" needs to be enabled in the General Config..

    See attached .jpg

    Hope this helps,

    Jeff...

That seems to have done the trick. Thanks!

I would think this should be the original behavior of the machine. Without the macro, It still seems way too easy to accidentally disable the limits.
