    Spindle Motor and ATC Required

    Hi,

i am a from australia and i have scratch built a cnc machine come router and i am looking for a spindle motor with the ability of a Auto tool changer.

the reason i want them combined in one unit is the size, i have looked at belt drive spindles and the head stock size of the machine really does not allow for both motor and spindle unit.

the spindle motor required specs are:-

    1.5 - 2.0 Kw
    4.75" or 120mm in Diameter
    12" - 18" or 300 - 450mm Long ( But can be a little longer )
ISO or HSK (Not sure which one need help on best choice)
    220 Volt Single phase
    Low Rev's say 500 RPM
    High Rev's say 30,000 RPM
    Self Cooled
ATC Mechanism is air but is there an electronic one
    Spindle to be mouted Vertically

so now the seach begins there is really no supplier of these types
Spindle motors in australia if there is they are not well advertised and i have been looking for 5 weeks.

Your help will be greatly appreciated in finding a supplier or some one who has gone down this path that could offer some of there wisdom.

    Kind Regards

    Askalot

I don't think you'll find a spindle with a range of 500 to 30K rpm. Typical router spindle range is about 7000 - 24000 rpm.

Here's a US supplier of chinese spindles. But they're water cooled.

    spindle motor and ATC required

    Hi,

Thanks Ger21 for your info, i went to the web address you gave and had a look, well i must say the price jumped considerably between manual to ATC the jump was $2000 dollars.

i think i might look at having a seprate motor with belt drive spindle ,the cost of those spindles i think might be less than $2000 dollars.

i have heard that sherline sell these spindles is this true ???

i have read a post on cnczone that a spindle motor was gained from a treadmill 2Hp - 0-11,000 rpm as any one heard how that went.

Still looking but i now will look at those manual spindles on the web site a lot closer to find which one the specs suit my needs.

    Thanks again Ger21

    Kind Regards

You might want to contact some of the chinese spindle sellers on Ebay. They can probably supply an ATC spindle, and probably at least $1000 less the the Keling's price.
