Ok, I didn't really know where to put this one, so I picked a forum that has alot of viewers. I am in the process of converting an old manual lathe to CNC. I was thinking that I could drop the gearbox off of the front , and just move the 2 axis with the jog pendant, but what if i still would like to use it manually sometime. Here is my solution: buy 2 MPG wheels and mount them on the front of the carrage so that I can still get the feel of a manual machine. Here is my problem: this is my first CNC conversion that I have really done all by myself. I'm running mach 3 through gecko 320's into 1200inlb servos with amt102 encoders. Where exactilly should the MPG wheels wire in to make this thing manual when I want it?

I believe you need two input pins for each MPG. You can also connect them via modbus. Or a Pokeys device.

ok, I don't know anything about modbus, or pokeys, and 4 inputs shouldn't be a problem, I would just like to make sure that it will work before spending $200 on it. I will still have a jog pendant, but that isn't quite as accurate as the mpg's are, and the having the "feel" of a manual lathe is always important.
