    imported

    is there a way to import a iges file and be able to use the featuresd tree,when i import i cannot do anything with them as it just say imported :tired:

    You have to use the "FeatureWorks" add-in to convert some of the features back.
    IMO it is usually not worth the effort but that is the answer to your question.

    IGES data imports are ususally the best way to work with data within the SolidWorks environment. 'IF' the file is of a complex nature your chances of getting a 'closed volumn solid' are small, and 'IF' the data comes in clean it is what is termed a 'dumb soild' meaning that you can view your object and not much else.

    'FeatureWorks' can repair minor problems with the imported data, however this is not guaranteed.

    I have used 3rd party translation programs with good results and the history tree remains intact. This is not inexpensive and the translators can often run as much or more than the cost of your 'parent' software and usually carry a
    1yr renewable service contract.
