    Low speed spindle?

    Hi everyone,

I am planning on purchasing a small cnc router (probably from k2cnc) to machine, among other things, ceramic substrates of various different types. From the examples I've found, this will require milling speeds of anywhere from 1000-6000 RPM. All the wood router heads I've looked at (ie. Makita, bosch etc) start higher than this and probably don't develop much torque untill much higher speeds.

I've looked at higher-end spindles (like colombo, perske etc.) but they too won't go down to 1000 RPM.

I assume milling machines' heads will do this but they are probably very heavy and large, and will cost a fortune.

Any suggestions on a spindle that might suit my needs?

Sherline industrial ER-16 spindles. You will have to relax the bearing preload a little for continous operation above 2000rpm (detailed procedure from Sherline supplied with the spindle.
