Does anyone have any suggestions on where and how to mount, and what type of sensor to get my X3 spindle speed into mach3?
I have the CNC4PC pulse index board (http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/prod...roducts_id=129). Someone suggested that a hall effect sensor might work, and it can be mounted in a hole in the gear cover to line up with a gear on top. If I go that route, I would have to program in a (guess) 34 to 1 ratio in Mach3. As long as that would work with the C3 and Mach3 I'm ok with that as that seems to be the cleanest option.
For now, I am just sliding a temporary timing disk on the draw bar.

Why ?

If the spindle is set up correctly it will read what Mach tells it to with 50 or so revs.

Never found a job yet where the revs have to be critical to plus or minus 5.

Seems like you'd want the sensor geared up like that for better accuracy, so I'd say mounting it on the gear cover was a good idea.

I've wondered about spindle speed control too... Mach can't do rigid tapping, but EMC can.
