    HAFCO VM1

Hi all, I have just purchased a HAFCO VM-1 mill and intend to convert to CNC. The X & Y axis have about .3mm backlash and I am looking for advice on where to start. Should I pull the whole thing to peices and attempt to replace the screws and nut or is there a way/method of just taking the backlash out of the nuts. Maybe this is enough for me to ask to start with. Thanks Steve

You can get started straight away by using software backlash compensation, it wont be super accurate but it will give you some time to save up and replace your screws and nuts with precision ground ball screws.
