    machining letters

the text that is offered is all block type letters except for the bobcad font which is line type letters but they made them goofy shapes... for instance the ( l) looks like a small (J) but backwards.
    anyway ...
how do you get or machine a single path letter for engraving..
    thanks

Two options the way I see it, well 3 if you have BobART. You can pocket the letters, you can offset the profile of the letter to fudge a centerline, or you can try V-Carve. I prefer to just offset the profile of the letters and kinda make it work.

There's no good way to work with an outline style font (which most are). This isn't a shortcoming of the software you are using, it's the way the font is created.

    bobart

i do have bobart but have never used it.
when i use v carv it cuts the outline of the letters instead of down the center.
ofsetting can be a real pain on letters like (s) ect.
just seems there should be a quick (headache less ) way to do it.

Another option if you want single lines for letters is to just use the line continuous tool to draw box letters, then use one of the spline tools and shift click snapping to draw your letter. then the deform contour tool for fine adjustment.

NCplot has a freeware for creating letters in different sizes and fonts. All you have to do is specify your starting and end code of your machine and everything in between is created in seconds.

You can still use Bobcad for single line etching (not as fun).

Anyhow you can select one of the several single line fonts installed by Bobcad or do a search on the internet for single line font. You do not need V-carve for machining these as they can be done with line machining. In the text box scroll down the fonts to find the Bobcad fonts. I believe the first one is a basic single line but try some of the others.

Is there a source for a print out version of bobcad fonts. Or an easy way of viewing all of the fonts without having to test each one?

    Thanks
