That is a synchro resolver it has three windings. used to be used for positioning, but fell out of favour

Thanks for enlightening me Al... Will have to do some reading...apparently the best thing for reliability and cost effectiveness...

If you were me(with what YOU know, of course), would you reuse or replace such feedback in this day and age ?

Do you know of any affordable converter / encoder emulator to get ABZ out of a resolver ?

I have never seen one using a reference, you are better off going to or converting to quadrature encoder.

Re: pin out pulse coder A860-0360-v501

How affordable are the ones without reference ? (You meant Z right ? AB should be enough for my application) Any DIY option ?

Oh, by using a converter to get AB, I will surly loose the Abs feature of synchro resolvers right ? the only thing that incites me to keep them is the Abs no homing feature otherwise, I see no other reason !

Oh BTW, is there any complex alignment procedure required to reinstall the synchro resolvers after I remove them... if need be ?

    Thanks very much ! :thumb:

Syncros are quite a bit different than quadrature encoders, they operate with two sine waves, calculating the co-tangent between the two.
    No re-alignment to do.
