    Having problems with coordinate systems!

Ok so I'm new to using a Fanuc Oi-model c controller on a prodis vertical machining center. And I have figured out how to get my X and Y axis offsets working for me. However, even after I have set my G54 Z offset to a standard off the table, and set tool length offsets relative to that standard, when I run a program with Z approach it doesn't go anywhere. The X and Y follow my machining path perfectly otherwise, just no Z movement.

Can anyone enlighten me on the basics of the coordinate system relations on this controller.

No Z movement at all? Maybe you could post a snippet of the code here.

How are you setting your tool length offsets? Are you using the INP-C soft key, or keying in the number? What kind of offset values are you coming up with?

Be sure before you start that the Relative Position display shows the same values as the Machine Position display.

You can check the distance from the tip of the tool to the top of the standard with a tape measure. Let's say it's 15". You should have -15.0 in your H GEOM value for that tool.

Then, if it's 1.25" up from the standard to the top of the part, you should have +1.25 in your G54 Z.
