Ran the machine today and ran into a snag as well. My little mishap with the red button seems to have caused another issue. My y axis stepper motor snapped its shaft.

Anyone know the spec's on this stepper?

Never mind found what i was looking for. Its a nema 23 260oz 3amp

i tought the x and y axis motor where stonger, are you sure?

From the manual

Stepper motors:
Our X and Y axis stepper motors are a NEMA 23. They have a holding
torque of 260 oz/in. And consumes 3 amps per phase.

Our Z-axis stepper motor is a NEMA 34 They have a holding torque
of 460 ounces per inch. And consumes 3 amps per phase.

hummm alway tought they where stronger...... funny i have 1x660oz and 2x495oz sitting in a box hmmmm i think we have a project...but no hurry in my point of view the lack in those machine comes from the lack of spindle speed and strength

but ill have to confirm on the stepper cuz they are the exact same size as my spare motor.

I have 2X425oz on the other Sx3 I'm building. There only about 1/2 longer.

It's lack of power is not in the steppers as you say. It's in spindle speed. 3500rpms is nice but would be better a tad higher.

tad higher and stronger i would like to see how it would performe with a stronger motor, not much just a tad like 1.5 the current motor if i am not mistaking is a 1000 watt so 1.34hp so just that little push with some more speed would make it sweeter of course a 2hp would be awsome but i doubt it would fit the head so a braket would need to be made to put the motor upward but then the head could be filled with an epoxy mix to help dampen the effect of the stronger motor but then the eavier head would probably be to much for the column but then again one can make wider bracket for the plate that attache to the ballscrew block and put a set of linear rail on the side of the column to help in support of the head thus preventing most of the dipping that the head does when it goes back up and at the smae time they would stiffen the head as they would help in resist the tortion of the head due the new weight added..... sorry got carried away and tought the idea was not that stupid

I have a 1.5hp dc motor on my shoptask. Hits about 4500 rpms in current configuration. But i still rather use the sx3. Yeah the higher rpms make it more ideal. But also makes it nosier. These things were barely designed to to run at the factory 1700rpms. Now jumping to 3500rpms is pushing them. Yeah we can't keep up with production machines. But these where never intended to either. So make due with what you can get. And compensate for it. Just don't over push them. That's when things break.
