    Hi Eric,
Are you working on any new projects?
Are you showing them on cnczone?
Its always interesting to follow your craftsmanship, I have been at a loss since the Newtons cradle was put to bed for a while
How is the weather in Florida this time of year?

Here in Ireland it has been one of the wettest winters on record!!
Its dry and cold now but at least Spring is on the way!!
    Best Regards

I think Eric will get back to it eventually. Maybe in a little different form though. Give him some time to recover and to figure it out.

This machine is a challenge to fully understand, let alone to build to its maximum potential as Eric is attempting to do. I enjoy watching his work on these projects as it is very instructional (as well as entertaining) for the wannabe DIY home machinist types like me.

Eric isn't preoccupied with shovelling snow is he? LOL

As I sit here in Wisconsin looking out the window, I have only about 3 feet of snow drifted at the edge of the patio.

    Strange, that global warming.

    :wave:Hi there Mr.Widgitmaster,awesome work!
I picked up this thread last thanksgiving,in search of a new project to work on.
After a quick survey of the shop,I found all materials needed to start my new
project. Of course your balls are larger than mine, mine only 38.1mm dia.,but
I can't complain for free! I completed my Newton's Cradle the end of Jan.2010.http://www.cnczone.com/forums/images/smilies/fruit.gif
    :wee:
I dubbed it the name "DA CLACKA "T" CLACK",for it goes clacka t clack ect...
Here are some photos to checkout. Widgitmaster you inspiried me,and in turn
I hope I can inspire you in the completion of your Cradle.
Thanks again, and I'll be watching for you. Keep up the good workhttp://www.cnczone.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif

Very nice. I love the coarse tool marks. How about a video of it in action.

    Beutiful work cncnitro!

I thought the "inspired by Widgetmaster" was a very nice touch. Respect!
I love deadlines- I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Nice work Patric. I like your toolpath strategy on the base. Must have taken a few minutes to complete

Are you going to anodize the machine? That (to me) would be the final touch.

Yeah, sweet! I too want to see video of it running. If Widget is like me, now he's wracking his brain to top that.
You know, it would be simplicity to make this driven.
I've been using the guts from cheap pendulum clock kits to make my pendulums go. Let me know if you want more details.

Excellent cncnitro! I'm sure glad to see more effort put into this device. I'm sure it just killed you to keep quiet about your project until now.

I'm with the others, nice touch of respect for Wigitmaster.

    Thanks for posting the photos.

I agree with what the others said but I will add... What a way to put a burr under Widget's saddle.
Now you called him out to finish what he said he poured way too much into for now.

PS...We need a vid of it in action.

    Wigit,

Your impeccable workmanship doesn't need the expense of color coating. It's always a jewel without it. Make it work and then color coat it if you really want to. Take your time recovering from the effort and expense and then get back to doing what you do best.

I don't think that cncnitro is competing with you. Just doing what he does best also. I'm envious of you both and admire and appreciate the difficulty of the works presented here.

    All the best,

Thankyou for all the kind words.

No, I'm not in competition with the Widgitmaster.
I'm sure with all the hard work that Widgitmaster has done, he's generated enough burrs of his own. I know with this project I had a few burrs in my own saddle(several engineering changes on the fly).

When I figure out how to get video online I'll post it. Actually from camera to computer is my problem.

About the anodizing, probably not. I like that course look finish. Maybe not look that nice on that kind of finish.

    Again, great job Widgitmaster!

If it's not a digital video camera I'm not sure how it can be done, but for a digital video camera it should not be very difficult. More details about the problem you're having is needed.
