    Question Stepper Motor Help

    I have been lurking around this site for some time now and am really impressed by the amount of knowledge and the willingness of the members to share that information.
    I recently receive a smal XYZ table complete with stepper motors (no driver board) which I plan to dismantle and use to build a small CNC router. My problem is I am not sure if these motors are powerful enough to run a table similar to JGRO's plans. The motors are from Oriental Motor Co and I have searched their site but can find no information. The motors are Vexta 2 phase, 5v dc, 1amp, Model no PH 265-04. If anybody knows the torque rating on these motors or where I could find that information, could you please let me know.

    Oriental Motor Co. Vexta # PH265-04-C9. 2-phase, 1.8 degree per step. 5 VDC 1 Amp. 2.22" diameter x 2" long. 2.3" square mounting flange with 4 holes on 1.85" centers. 0.25" diameter x 0.75" long shaft. 6 color-coded 24" leads.

    According to that site the holding torque is 5000 g/cm. 5000gr is 5 kilo. Sounds alot but I don't know the convertion to lib/in.

    Thanks for the info. Anyone know how to convert 5000gm/cm to oz/in?

    Hi there,

    5kgcm is approximately 49Ncm. This is the equivalent to about 69.4 ozin. As far as I know, the units are also ozin or Ncm and NOT oz/in (oz per inch). Torque is based on moments and a moment is defined as: 'force * perpendicular distance to the pivot', not divide.

    Could someone just confirm that my calc is correct (just to be sure).

    figured it out

    I think I figured out the torque in oz/in 28 grams to the oz =appr 178oz 2.54 cm to the inch - 178/2.54 = approx 70 oz/in. Would these motors drive a cnc table similar to jgro's plan?
