    Formula for B axis rotation on machining centre?

    Can anyone tell me the formula for X and Z co-ordinates when you rotate the B-Axis around the centre of a horizontal machining centre and the you have a part or fixture which is sitting at z200.

    Assume that the part has been loaded at X 0, Y 0 and the hole is on Y0.

    eg. Say I want to drill a hole at 45° on a diameter.
    My component is Z200.0 from the centre of the table(centre of rotation).
    I rotate the B axis 45° around the centre of the table .
    What would my x and z figures be.

    I'm guessing you have a cylindrical part clamped to a tombstone, and the cylinder is oriented vertically, parallel to the Y-axis? Also, you want X-zero to be the center of the cylinder?

    Z-zero = cos(B) * (200.0 - R) + R
    X-zero = sin(B) * (200.0 - R)

    B = B-axis rotation in degrees
    R = Radius of the workpiece

    Different formulas if you're cutting flat workpieces.

    Hello fitzpatrick,
    you can download and use CNCOffsetCalculator for calculation of the offsets on horizontal machining centres - it gives you the X,Y,Z coordinates (if you know exactly the position of the workpiece) or it generates a CNC code (G10 code or system var) and the machine will calculate the offsets when it runs.
    You can download the program from cncplusplus.com
