    Stepper Amperage Rating???

    HI
I first want to say that CNCZONE is the absolute best CNC site I have ever been to, and thanks for any help in advance!!! Now on to the question. I am building a CNC Router and have aquired some NEMA 34 sized Steppers for the axises. The motor that I am planning on using for the Y-Axis Is a Pacific Science E33NRHA-LNN-NS-00, 8.6 Amp BI-POLAR PARALLEL, 35V, Po:168W, AMBIENT:40 C, 1500 RPM. As you can see from the Specs it has a high amp rating. I have been looking at the Gecko 210 Drives but they are only rated to 7 amps. The motor is 2 phase I believe, so is the listed current the sum of each phase and if so do I need a driver that can support 8.6 amps output or only 4.3 amps output?
    Thanks again

Most motors I've seen specify the current per phase. So the drive need to supply 8.6 amps per phase. Of course you could just use 7 amps if you don't mind a slight decrease in torque.
