I'm preparing to change the 3V battery on the control unit. Before I do that I'd like to backup the parameters and anything else that could be lost. What is the procedure for backing up the machine parameters? I have RS232 communication established with a PC if that helps.

do a SRAM backup.. get a compact flash card from sandisk and a pcmcia card adapter (less than 2 gb).. stick the card in the memory card slot
hold down the 2 outter softkeys under the screen and power up the control..

go to sram data back (sram data utility)up via the soft keys.. and select backup..

This is the best way to backup the machine...

now if you want to do it via rs232

punch out the parameters, pmc parameters, pitch errors (if available) macros, programs (make sure 3202 is set to output 9000 programs), offsets

I got a PCMCIA card adpater with a 512MB compact flash card as you suggested. After holding the two soft keys and powering up, I can't find the SRAM data utility. I currently have the control configured for RS232 communications. Do I need to change any parameters to be able to write to the PCMCIA card?

no it should say... SRAM DATA BACKUP OR SRAM DATA UTILITY..

you dont need to change any parameters.. it has to work it might just be worded differently

I tried the two softkey control power up again. No joy. I don't see anything to do with SRAM. I know that the PCMCIA card works as I punched the parameter information to it. I did have to change the I/O channel to 4.

There are three methods for accessing the Fanuc Boot screen

1 hold the two soft keys on the furthest right " - > "
Options 2 and 3 depend on the size of your screen

2. hold the two arrow soft keys (Small screen)
3. Hold the Right arrow soft key, and 7th from the right (large screen)

Options 2 & 3 allow you to backup the Fanuc NC software (not normally necessary as this is not stored on volatile memory.

Turn on the NC while holding these keys

you will see the black boot screen

use the soft keys to navigate the menus

SRAM BACKUP

end quits out of the current menu

thanks, your absolutely right.. all oi's only have 6 buttons below the screen so you need to press the furthest right and left for boot screen..

Okay, I get it now...

I didn't comprehend that you had to hold down the soft keys until the boot screen comes up. I was holding them down, pressing the control power on button and then releasing them.

were can i find the files of the rom my control rom is empty and need the files were can i find that after a initialization of rom

Why did you inialize the F-ROM? Not a good idea with out a back up.

A good MTB will leave a disk in the electrical cabinate, look there.

The majority of the time Fanuc can replace it all for you, System software, macro lib, servo software, all standard.

But if the machine tool builder has custom files on there (fanuc picture - macro executor - datau) then you need to go to them.

Having worked at Fanuc for many years, i know how poor MTB's are keeping copies of machine files safe.
