I have wanted a CNC machine for quite some time now and I have been doing reasearch all this time. I have selectecd the mill I think I want but I need some input from the machinists out there.
My plan is to do custome work, short runs and rapid prototyping. Initially I will be building parts for a small vehicle, knife blades, special tools, etc..
I intend to use the following materials, steel, aluminum, titanium, brass, acrylics, hardwoods, ABS, CPVC etc...
1. The budget is $20,000 and not one cent more. This budget needs to include a good selection of chucks, clamps, vises, bits, drills, etc. Turnkey go with no additional equipment except expendables and materials.
2. Speed is not a critical issue as if I need a production run I will contract it out to a shop that does that sort of thing.
2. Movement needs to be 18"x9"x12" (x,y,z) minimum
3. The unit needs to accomidate at least one rotary table.
4. It would be nice to be able to do lathe operations as well as vertical milling and use the same CNC system with both like the Tormach 1100.
5. Digitizing existing components is very important as well.
6. Extraordinary Technical Support
Not so critical issues;
Are there any mills out there that one can rotate the vertical rotary component to the horizontal position?
Are there any CNC controllers that can accomidate a number of accessory servos for operating a armlike device and or accept additional digital/analog inputs or outputs?
Thank You very much in advance.
